Women in Mining and Energy (WiME) Indonesia brings to you the 11th Ruang XY Photovoice virtual exhibition. Ruang XY is WiME’s regular public discussion event aimed at exchanging and disseminating the best practices, identifying problems, devising action-oriented solutions in the mining and energy sector. Ruang (in English: room) translates as a safe space for everyone to share and speak about their challenges while also initiating solutions. XY symbolises the promotion of equal and meaningful presentation of all genders.
The 11th Ruang XY is unique as it is for the first time ever conducted virtually. It has two main events i.e Photovoice virtual exhibition and national discussion supported by EGPS. WiME, in collaboration with Yayasan Tambuhak Sinta (YTS), conducted photography and videography (Photovoice) trainings under the EGPS-funded project titled “Echoing the Voices: Participatory Video and Picture Capturing the Impact of Covid-19 On Women and Children in Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM)” for small-scale miners in three locations in Indonesia. This project supports the advocacy effort of ASM communities by providing them platforms through photo and video to voice their concerns.
This virtual exhibition gallery showcases the stories of small-scale miners’ lives amidst the pandemic through photo and video. Check out the stories and leave your response in the photo and video! Prize is available for the best comment of the day.
